Over the past months we have been exploring the future of Terranu. It has been a delicate process. Now it feels like we are entering a new chapter, and we are ready to communicate with you all.
Over the past two-plus years, we have accomplished many wonderful things at Terranu. Together, we started a thriving vegetable garden, explored and prototyped various modes of homeschooling and forest-based learning, planted hundreds of trees, launched a berry enterprise, removed large sections of invasive rhododendron, built a guest cabin, restored crucial infrastructure, and so much more.
At the same time, we’ve also faced challenges—challenges that we haven’t always managed to convey in our newsletters as it is hard to capture the essence of processes that we were still in the middle of. Now we can clearly see that moving forward together became increasingly challenging, and we could no longer see how to continue on the same path in a way that allowed all of us to thrive.
After much reflection and careful conversation, we made the decision to end our collaboration and go our separate ways. While this decision wasn’t easy, we recognized that it was what would bring the most creativity and connection in the end for all of us, allowing each of us to pursue our paths with the freedom to grow and honour our authenticity. We are deeply grateful for the journey we have shared and for everything we’ve achieved together. Without each other, Terranu wouldn’t have become what it is today.
Pieter and Nakyta will continue Terranu, carrying forward our commitment to stewarding this land. In the near future Sarah and Merijn will embark on an exciting new adventure in Oosterwold, the Netherlands, where they will explore the social art of living, learning, and working together. In the meantime they will focus on their Nonviolent Communication courses from their temporary home in the French countryside. You can follow their projects on instagram.
We are excited to share more about Terranu in an upcoming newsletter, and we hope you will continue to follow the journey.
Warmly,
Merijn, Sarah, Pieter and Nakyta
